A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the safe return of a lost dog.
Gretchen, a senior dog, has been missing since Saturday afternoon. She escaped from her foster home on Tharpe Avenue in Watsonville around 3 p.m. A few hours later, a dog matching her description was spotted running on and off Highway 1 near Salinas Road, just outside Moss Landing, prompting the California Highway Patrol to briefly stop traffic for her safety.
Despite tireless efforts by volunteers—who have distributed flyers, contacted agriculturalcompanies, and alerted local veterinary hospitals and emergency services, Gretchen remains missing.
Gretchen is a shy and timid dog, and may not approach strangers. However, if her locationcan be narrowed down, familiar staff and volunteers may be able to coax her to safety.
“We’re deeply concerned for Gretchen’s safety,” said Carie Broecker, Executive Director ofPeace of Mind Dog Rescue in Pacific Grove, which is offering the reward. “We know she’s scared and confused, and we’re asking the community to be on the lookout and help bring her home.”
Anyone with information or sightings is urged to call or text Carie Broecker at 831-601-4253 immediately.
