SANTA CRUZ, CA—Not even the chilly morning could keep cyclists away from Ecology Action’s Bike To Work Day. Over 6,000 enthusiastic students and community members participated at one of our 16 free breakfast sites or at one of our 45 school sites from across the County.
Ecology Action is proud to encourage Santa Cruz residents and youth to ride their bike or walk instead of drive whether commuting to work, school, or play all year long. Students from across the County received a free breakfast, stickers, and other incentives to encourage more biking, walking, skating, and carpooling to school.
Cyclists on their way to work were able to receive free breakfast, coffee, massages, and free bike maintenance at locations across the County. Thanks to businesses like the Westside New Leaf and The Picnic Basket, local cyclists were treated to a feast!
At New Leaf Community Market on the westside, cyclists received free massages, a delicious free breakfast which included steamy warm frittatas and fresh coffee and pastries along with free bike maintenance (see picture attached). Similarly, The Picnic Basket who is one of the newest locations to be added to this bi-annual event, has quickly become the most popular place for cyclists to stop on their morning commute.
Bike To Work Day is a great opportunity for beginner cyclists to join the fun and learn about practical resources available to them to help make bike commuting and trips to school more practical and fun.
Ecology Action’s bi-annual Bike To Work/School Day occurs every year in October and May. Santa Cruz County residents can expect to see exciting event announcements for our May Bike Week, including events all week long to support and incentive cycling and walking!
