SUMMARY:Field Sketching Workshop: Wildflowers with Sami Chang
DESCRIPTION:Spring wildflowers are here! Join science illustrator Sami Chang for a guided field sketching experience in Mima Meadow where we will observe some of our County’s most amazing native wildflowers. We’ll learn about flower anatomy and practice field sketching techniques while learning to identify some of our local grassland flowers. Basic materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their favorite nature journaling and field sketching tools, such as a journal, watercolor palette, pencils, pens, hand lenses, etc.\nSaturday, April 13, 2024\n10 a.m. to 1 p.m.\nLocation: Mima Meadow (directions shared upon registration)\n$15 Museum Members ( https://www.santacruzmuseum.org/get-involved/membership/ ) | $25 General\nAbout the Artist\nSamantha (Sami) Chang is a proud East Bay Area Native. Growing up, she explored her jungle of a backyard, sketchbook and pens always in hand, and drew everything she saw. Though art was one of her first loves, she became passionate about marine sciences when she was 12 years old. This passion drove her to pursuing a Marine Science degree from California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and allowed her to focus her studies on a large range of marine organisms, from the Humpback whales that visit the bay during the summer months to feed on schools of sardines to the black abalone that hide deep within the rocky crevices of the intertidal to avoid being eaten by sea otters. Combining her love of art and science, she went on to gain her graduate certification in Science Illustration at CSUMB in hopes of educating large audiences on various marine organisms and ecological processes as well as how they are impacted by human interactions.\nIf you would like to see more of her work, please visit https://www.schangstudios.com/ ( https://www.schangstudios.com/ ).\n
