The key to surviving an earthquake is by preparing ahead of time and following some simple safety rules during a quake.
Before An Earthquake:
- Prepare an emergency kit of food, water and other supplies for every member of your family (including pets)
- Practice emergency drills with your family members or co-workers
- Organize your neighborhood or workplace to be self-sufficient after a quake.
During An Earthquake:
Duck, cover and hold until the shaking stops- Be aware of falling objects indoors and outside as you leave a building
- Don’t panic
After An Earthquake:
- Check your home for damage.
- Listen to news broadcasts for emergency information.
- Be prepared for aftershocks and for more falling objects
Take the time to prepare your family for the effects of an earthquake. Contact your local Fire Department or the Red Cross for more information.
