Aptos High Alum Culbertson Finds Cross Country Coaching Success

Nicole Silva Culbertson, who joined Mount Madonna School in 2015 and teaches science to eighth to twelfth grade students, is the coach for middle school cross country, track and field and soccer.

Her daughter Pierce, a seventh grader at Mount Madonna School, completed an undefeated cross country season and helped score her team a 7th-8th Small Schools League championship. She competes in club (and MMS soccer), and plays most team sports that MMS offers.

Daughter Kenzie, a freshman, won a cross country meet versus Scotts Valley and Harbor High School, and consistently is a top finisher. She continues to play club soccer, plays volleyball for Mount Madonna School. She ran in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League final Nov. 2 at Pinto Lake.


Son Colby ran cross country and track while at Mount Madonna middle school. He now attends Aptos High, where he competed in cross country, but now plays golf, year round.

Silva Culbertson ran for Aptos High School from 1991-1995, following in the footsteps of her father, Adelino Silva, an excellent runner for Watsonville High School and then Chico State, where he still holds some records.

Silva Culbertson ran four years of cross country and track, and won league and Central Coast Section titles throughout her years at Aptos High, and them competed at state, earning a best finish of 6th place. She received a D1 scholarship to continue running cross country and track at Tulane University.
