Aptos’ Class of 2014 walks in the 2012 Homecoming Parade

Aptos High School will be having their annual Homecoming Week from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. The theme for 2013 is “Aptos Goes to Hollywood.” This is one of the most exciting times of year for Aptos High students and the community as there are tons of exciting events happening around Aptos this week. In addition to community events, the Aptos High ASB class hosts competitions between the different classes (Freshmen through Seniors) toward winning Homecoming and earning points toward the Mariner Cup — our year-long spirit competition.
According to Janene Adema, Aptos Branch Manager of Bay Federal Credit Union, on Saturday, September 28 a team of Aptos students will be decorating her branch for the Homecoming with Aptos HS banners, signs and football jerseys. Janene invites everyone to come by Come by Bay Federal Credit Union at 105 Post Office Dr., Aptos during Aptos Homecoming Week.

The whole week of Homecoming starts and continues strong with Spirit Days. Students and faculty are encouraged to participate by dressing in costumes for each day’s theme. This year our theme days are: USA Monday • Toy Tuesday • Wacky Twin Wednesday • #Throwback Thursday • Rep Your Theme Friday. Throughout the week, activities are held during lunch for the Homecoming Court – Seniors who are selected by their peers to be in the running for Homecoming King and Queen.
On Wednesday October 2, the Mariners hold their Annual Homecoming Parade on Soquel Drive from Wells Fargo to Bay Federal Credit Union from 3 -4 pm. Soquel Drive will be closed for the parade which features floats made by each class as well as other floats from other Aptos High groups. The parade is open to the entire community and everyone is invited to come and watch.

On Friday October 4, Aptos High has their Homecoming Assembly during the school day. Each class presents their own skit based around the theme “Aptos Goes to Hollywood” centered on their own class themes – movie production companies. The class themes are: Seniors- Disney/Pixar • Juniors- Universal Studios • Sophomores- Paramount Pictures • Freshmen- 20th Century Fox.
Friday night is the Homecoming Football game at Trevin Dilfer Stadium in which the Aptos Mariners play the Harbor Pirates. Junior Varsity game starts at 5:00 PM and Varsity starts at 7:30 PM. During halftime of the Varsity game, the winners of the Homecoming float and skit competitions are announced, as well as Homecoming King and Queen.
As the final event of Homecoming Week, after the game the Mariners are having their Homecoming dance on campus.
It’s a great week to be a Mariner!
