The Aptos high varsity softball team traveled to S.L.V. to beat the host team 6-1. Michelle Firebaugh went the distance allowing 3 hits and struck out 5. Rita McCreesh led the Mariners at the plate going 3-3 with a walk and 2 RBIs. Casey Messersmith and Nicole Getzschmann added 1 RBI each.
Aptos 12 – Watsonville 0
The Aptos high varsity softball team beat Watsonville high 12-0 at Aptos high behind a near perfect pitching performance by Michelle Firebaugh. An error in the 5th inning was the only blemish on a 4 strike out shut out. Michelle also came through with the bat recording a 2 RBI hit in the 1st inning. Nicole Getzschmann and Jennifer Segura also knocked in 2 runs each with Amanda Ang having a good day at the plate hitting 2 doubles and an RBI.
Aptos Varsity Softball at Monte Vista Tournament
The Aptos Mariners Girls Varsity Softball Team took first place in their pool at the Monte Vista Christian Tournament March 15 and 16. The first day of play, Aptos upset Santa Cruz 20 to 2 with the help of Jennifer Segura hitting a home run, Casey Messersmith hitting 2 homeruns and Marrissa Bugyong hitting a grand slam. Michaela Barnett got the win giving up only 2 runs. The next day, Aptos shut out Alisal 14 to 0 giving Aimee Beaton the win. Rita McCreesh was 3 for 4 with 3 doubles and 6 RBI’s. Jennifer Segyra went 3 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI’s and Casey Messersmith and Amanda Ang added 2 RBI’s apiece. Later in the afternoon, the Mariners blanked Woodside 4 to 0 with Michelle Firebaugh throwing a 1 hitter and going 1 for 2 with an RBI. Amanda Ang went 2 for 3 with an RBI and both Marrissa Bugyong and Rita McCreesh added and RBI apiece.
