MusicMan_The-Ladies Music Man Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comAptos High Theatre Arts Dept. presents Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, opening March 20. Join us for Willson’s loving tribute to the small-town Iowa he remembers from his childhood, a bygone era that celebrates the best parts of America in the heartland: Perseverance, Community, and the Power of Music.

Featuring a rich musical score highlighting the music of turn-of-the-century America, including Symphonic Band, Ragtime, Barbershop, and Jazz, Wilson’s score is highlighted by such favorites as “Goodnight My Someone,” “Till There Was You,” “Ya Got Trouble,” and “76 Trombones.”

Back again this year is Orchestra Conductor Terrel Eaton, who has assembled an impressive group of musicians to make up a full live orchestra!

The story centers on slick salesman Harold Hill (played by Senior Jacob Baker), who travels the mid-west selling gullible communities on the idea of a Boys Band, and Librarian/piano teacher Marian Paroo (Junior Alana Mikaela Reed), the River City woman who sees through him and helps him realize there’s more to life than making a quick buck.

Add to the cast of characters a population of salt-of-the-earth small town types — the gossiping, but well-intentioned matriarchs, the flustered Mayor, the bickering small business owners doubling as the school board (and Barbershop quartet), the teenagers exploring new freedoms when and where they can, and the children who yearn for something to get excited about — and you have the quintessential time capsule of life as it used to be… “You really ought to give Iowa a try!”
