Begonia Plants Stolen in Capitola Village

The hanging begonias at 331 Capitola Ave. in Capitola Village were stolen the night of Sept. 1.

This annual display of plants commemorates the 65 years of the Capitola Begonia Festival and honors Capitola’s City Flower, the tuberous begonia.

Grown by volunteers from tubers supplied by the now retired Brown Ranch Family, these plants cannot be replaced, according to volunteer Laurie Hill.

The volunteers hope that the plant thieves appreciate the community heritage of these plants and will return them so the community can enjoy them again next year.

Contact Capitola Police Department, 831-475=4242, if you have information regarding these begonias.
