BlueMoon_2 Blue Moon Aptos Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comDo you know the secret of area women who want to look stylish in high-quality clothing? They look no further than Blue Moon Aptos Clothing Company for fad-free style with high quality — AND a competitive price. New styles arrive daily, so they can shop often, always find something new, and never worry about looking like everyone else. You should stop by and shop, too! Owner Nancy Everett listens to what the personally successful women of our community want, need, and recommend, and so offers a well-curated selection of clothing.

“It’s a sweet little store, very special,” says longtime employee Barbara Littlefield. Barbara knows what she’s talking about — her background includes experience at CP Shades and Eileen Fisher as well as other name brand companies. “Nancy is such a talented buyer. “That’s why this store is so easy to shop — you can always leave with three things you love that you’ll wear.”

At Blue Moon Aptos, customers can put together several different coordinating looks by choosing between all the items in the store. And if you need help, Barbara or Joanne Sampson, the store’s other salesperson, are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about how things go together. “I look for ways to intermix pieces from different lines,” explains Nancy, so the clothing she brings for us to wear has a definite point of view with a focus on cotton and other natural fibers. “I look for domestically made goods, and currently have a dozen made in the U.S.A. brands,” says Nancy. “We’re not stuck on labels.” And you can find accessories to complete your looks — from handbags to hats and socks and shoes. “We also focus on unique, handmade jewelry with lines from New York, San Francisco, and Seattle represented in the store,” Nancy says. She also does business with several Fair Trade companies.

History of Fashion Success

Her customers benefit from Nancy’s long career in fashion and retail. She started off in commercial interior design, doing build-out and interior finishes for clients’ stores from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Las Vegas to Chicago and New York. She opened her first store, the beloved Lauren’s in Capitola Village. “I really enjoyed learning the business from the ground up,” she remembers. “My mother was an excellent seamstress and I learned to sew at 14. I quickly learned that understanding construction, fit, and fabric were very important tools in buying.” Despite the often-tough Village parking issues, Nancy had a devoted local clientele who supported the shop year round as well as return out-of-town shoppers.

In 1999, Nancy partnered with Lisa Canepa to open Blue Moon Clothing in Santa Cruz. When Lauren’s closed in 2001, the two opened a second location in Aptos. In 2012, the partners decided it made more sense to split the stores, and the two are independent entities, no longer affiliated with the other. Nancy owns Blue Moon Aptos solely.
