Boardwalk Rides to Reopen

With Santa Cruz County now in the state’s Orange Tier for reopening the economy, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk announced that some of the rides will reopen this weekend to Santa Cruz County residents.

State guidelines for COVID-19 safety limit the number of people and require advance reservations.

The Boardwalk has set up a system to reserve a 2-hour time slot with access to the ride area. The rides slated to open include the Giant Dipper, Shockwave, Fireball, Sea Swings, Undertow and the Sky Glider; the list is subject to change.

Hours will be noon to 2 p.m. and again 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov 7-8, with an hour shutdown in between for cleaning. Only 300 people will be allowed in for rides for each session and Boardwalk staff expect reservations to fill fast.

While there are limits on rides at the 113-year-old amusement park, the Boardwalk’s outdoor arcade games, miniature golf, food, and shopping are open to all guests.

“This has been the most unique year in our long and rich history,” the Boardwalk posted in its rides announcement. “We are thrilled to reopen our rides in a limited and safe fashion.”
