BSA Troop 599 Celebrates 100 Years of Excellence and Community Service

WATSONVILLE — Scouts BSA Troop 599 is proud to celebrate its 100th year of continuous Scouting service, leadership development, and community involvement in the Watsonville area.

Founded in 1926, Troop 599 began under the sponsorship of the American Legion. The Watsonville Rotary Club is the current sponsoring organization. While the troop was founded and met in Watsonville, they moved to Corralitos when the building they were meeting in was closed. The Corralitos Padres welcomed Troop 599 and offered the Corralitos Community Center (Padres Hall) to them as a new home.

Over the past century, many local youth have participated in Troop 599, gaining valuable outdoor, leadership, citizenship, and life skills that have prepared them for success throughout their lives. The troop’s commitment to service has also made a lasting impact on the community, with Scouts contributing thousands of hours of service to Watsonville and surrounding communities.

A hallmark of Troop 599’s legacy has been its tradition of excellence in leadership and achievement. Since its founding, 93 Scouts from Troop 599 have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Scouting America. Among these distinguished Eagle Scouts, two served in the United States Army during World War II, while another currently serves in the United States Marine Corps.

To commemorate this historic milestone, Troop 599 will host a 100th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Padres Hall (Corralitos Community Center). Current and former 599 Scouts and Leaders, their families, and community supporters are invited to attend and celebrate a century of Scouting memories, accomplishments, and service, a RSVP is required for this event.

The event will feature opportunities to reconnect with former troop members, share stories from across the decades, and honor the many volunteers, families, and community partners who have helped make Troop 599 a lasting institution in the Pajaro Valley.
