California Statewide Fire Summary

Wednesday, September 24, 2014
This morning over 8,200 firefighters continue to battle 4 major wildfires burning in Unknown-1California. While progress is being made on the King Fire, over 7,600 firefighters continue to build containment line around the blaze and protect 12,000 homes that remain threated.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect due to gusty winds and high fire danger for parts of Modoc County down the Sierra Nevada range to Tuolumne County. Strong winds with gusts of up to 40mph are possible. Firefighters are monitoring the weather closely, as the winds will increase the fire risk and could push the King Fire further north. Overnight though weather conditions will change and cooler temperatures and even rain are likely across Northern California. This weather should aid firefighters in their efforts toward containment.

Even though Fall as officially begun, the risk of wildfires does not end. In fact, historically California experiences its largest and most damaging wildfires during the fall months. Residents must remain prepared for wildfire. Learn more at
