Capitola Honors Former Times Publishing Editor Jondi Gumz

On Tuesday, June 17, former Times Publishing Group, Inc. editor Jondi Gumz was honored by the City of Capitola for the high-quality reporting she has provided Santa Cruz County for more than a quarter century.

Here is the proclamation:

WHEREAS, Jondi Gumz has contributed over 26 years of exceptional journalism ¾ most notably 20+ years at the Santa Cruz Sentinel and more recently as Editor at Times Publishing Group ¾ reporting with integrity and care on topics vital to Capitola and the broader Santa Cruz County community; and

WHEREAS, her in-depth coverage has consistently illuminated critical public-interest issues ¾ ranging from affordable housing and public health programs to local government actions ¾ such as her feature on the county’s Nurse-Family Partnership initiative for low-income first-time families; and

WHEREAS, her reporting on Capitola-specific matters, including the fate of the historic Rispin Mansion ¾ covering stories on council deliberations, demolition plans, restoration projects, and ghost-hunter midnight explorations ¾ has deepened community understanding and engagement with our city’s heritage; and

WHEREAS, her distinguished work has been recognized by numerous awards, including a 2018 San Francisco Press Club Award and a 2017 Clarion Award for public relations reporting; and

WHEREAS, through thoughtful, fact-based, and empathetic storytelling, Jondi Gumz has fostered civic trust, empowered residents, and chronicled Capitola’s evolving story with honesty and heart;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Capitola hereby honors and thanks Jondi Gumz for her outstanding career in journalism, her steadfast commitment to serving the public interest, and her enduring contribution to the vitality of Capitola.
