Capitola Library Chess Tournament Winners

The annual Youth Chess Tournament at the Capitola Branch Library on July 1 provided a place for 50 budding chess enthusiasts to showcase their skills and engage in friendly competition.

Organized by the Santa Cruz Public Library, the tournament brought together young players to test their strategic acumen and sportsmanship.

The tournament featured a competitive yet friendly format, ensuring that participants could challenge themselves against players of similar age and experience levels. With multiple rounds consisting of one-on-one chess games, the tournament offered an intellectually stimulating environment for players to demonstrate their mastery of the game.

The winners are:

Ages 10 and Under

1. Forrest Pilch
2. Phineas Lee
3. Tor Jensen, Cody Sampson, Marco Lari, and Micah Pilch

Ages 11 and Above

1. Ptolemy Lee
2. Ethan Burson
3. Angel Castro and Mario Lari

The Capitola branch library hosts the Aptos-Capitola Youth Chess Club, which meets Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
