Celebration of Life for Debra Towne


On Saturday, Nov. 18, Debra Jean Towne tragically passed away at age 70 in Capitola.

She was walking across Crossroads Loop near Bay Avenue when she was fatally struck by a vehicle that did not stop. Her friends and family have called for safety improvements in the area, such as better street lighting.

A spontaneous memorial was created at the location of Debra Towne’s death.

Capitola Police have arrested Aurora Lopez, 58, of Soquel, who has pleaded not guilty to not guilty to charges of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Debra was a woman of many wonderful traits. She loved her family, the beach, cooking and enjoyed Hawaiian dancing. Debra loved helping anyone that needed her. She will be forever missed and cherished by all that knew her.


Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Towne, her parents, Donald Pocock and Helen Pellicia, and her brother, Rocky Pocock.

She is survived by her children, Patrick Towne, Adrienne West and Andrew Towne,  her sister Rebecca Roesner, and 7 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at 10 a.m.  Friday, Dec. 15,  at Twin Lakes Church with a reception to follow. In honor of Debra, Hawaiian dress is preferred.
