CHP Officer’s Car Rear-Ended

A CHP officer responding to a rollover crash on southbound Highway 17 north of La Madrona Road about 8:15 p.m. Sunday night was rear-ended by another driver as he approached the crash scene.

As a result of the crash, the 24-year-old CHP officer was transported to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for injuries. His car, a 2020 Dodge Charger, was crunched into the trunk.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman from Santa Cruz, and a 30-year-old man from Santa Cruz and a 58-year-old woman from Cambria, passengers in the other vehicle, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, were taken to Dominican Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Southbound Highway 17 was closed for 40 minutes.

Alcohol and or drugs are not considered a factor in this collision, CHP reported.

This collision is still under investigation.
