Construction On Highway 9 Near Ben Lomond Nears Completion

caltrans

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY– A construction project nears completion with grinding and paving scheduled for next Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 by closing a ¼-mile section of Highway 9 in Santa Cruz County near Ben Lomond from just north of Glen Arbor Road to Highlands County Park south of Holiday Lane.

However, the temporary signal has been removed and the highway is now open to two-way traffic. The ¼-mile stretch from just north of Glen Arbor to Highlands County Park needs to be closed for this two-day operation. A detour along Glen Arbor Road will be in place while final grinding and paving are being done next week from 7 am to 7 pm. Please see attached detour map below.

Road and bridge work to construct a new viaduct began on September 4. Motorists should expect 10-15 minute delays.

This project will improve roadway reliability by constructing a viaduct structure and repaving the existing, worn pavement. Project work will continue after April for about one year for landscaping to be installed.  No lane closures are needed for this and all work is expected to be complete by next summer.

The contractor for this $1.3 million project is Pavex Construction of Watsonville.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over or slow down when driving through Caltrans work zones.
