Cooling Weather Helps with Loma Fire

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-5-43-33-pm Loma Fire Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comWith temperatures falling and more fog over the weekend, firefighters were able to reinforce existing fire lines and improve containment, bringing it up to 81%. Extremely drought stressed vegetation conditions still exist, however the potential for torching trees has decreased.

Steep and inaccessible terrain continues to challenge firefighting efforts. Stumps and dead wood still have the potential to burn in these remote areas within the fire perimeter.

Today, firefighters  continue reinforcing fire lines and mopping up within the fire area, maintaining readiness for any new flare-ups or hot spots that could develop. Suppression repair activities will continue, including installation of erosion control measures.

No new buildings have been destroyed, but acres burned has reached 4,474. Also, evacuations orders have been listed for Summit Road from Loma Prieta Road to Highway 152.

The following road closures are still in effect: Loma Prieta Road 1 mile east of Highland Way, Summit Road at Ormsby Road.

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR STATE AGENCIES TO SOLICIT DONATIONS!

Please do not give any money to anyone saying they are seeking donations to help CAL FIRE fight the Loma Fire. CAL FIRE has received information regarding individuals who are soliciting donations throughout the communities affected by the Loma Fire. They are reportedly requesting cash for operations related to base camp at Christmas Hill Park and firefighting efforts associated with the fire. CAL FIRE cannot, is not, and will not accept donations for the Loma Fire Incident. It is against the law for California state agencies to solicit or accept any donation for its own use.

While the thought is greatly appreciated, the camp is well supplied and self-sufficient. The Red Cross does not have the facilities to accept food or goods, but can accept monetary donations: www.redcross.org/donate/donation.
