GET READY FOR THE 26TH ANNUAL SANTA CRUZ COUNTY BIKE WEEK
MAY 3-11
Bike Week Encourages Healthy and Sustainable Transportation

SANTA CRUZ, CA—Ecology Action is gearing up for Santa Cruz County’s Annual Bike Week, which kicks off its 26th year on May 3 and runs through May 11. Every year thousands of enthusiastic children, families and adults participate in events all week long ranging from community bike rides to free bike mechanic workshops and family friendly art projects and activities.
Ecology Action is proud to encourage Santa Cruz residents to ride their bike instead of drive whether commuting to work, school, or play all year long. Bike Week is a great opportunity for beginner cyclists to join the fun and learn about practical resources available to them to help make bike commuting and trips to school more practical and fun.
Held during National Bike Month, Santa Cruz County’s premiere biking event features fun activities all week to inspire bike commuters of all levels to keep on riding. Some Bike Week highlights this year include:
- May 3: First Friday at the Museum of Modern Art featuring local bike-themed art, family friendly activities, and pedal-powered margaritas
- May 4: FREE Bike Commuting 101 Workshop and Group Ride with People Power! At The Bicycle Trip, 1001 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz
- May 8: Spokesman Bicycles offering FREE Basic Bike Maintenance at the Downtown Santa Cruz Farmers Market
- May 11: The Bicycle Trip Bicycle Festival at 1001 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz
For Bike to Work and School Day, May 9, there will be 16 public breakfast sites throughout Santa Cruz County, where bike commuters can receive free breakfast, basic bike maintenance, and more. In 2012, over 1,300 commuters participated in Bike To Work Day and nearly 5,000 students participated in Bike to School Day. Join the thousands of cyclists for this year’s range of Bike Week activities to get inspired and incentivized to ride your bike!
“Bike Week is a growing Santa Cruz tradition that directly addresses climate change and childhood obesity by providing fun, inclusive and informative bicycle activities for all ages,” stated Piet Canin of Ecology Action.
