Fatal Crash on Highway 17

A woman was killed Friday morning, Aug. 22 in a fiery crash on Highway 17.

The name of the driver has not been released. CHP officers responded to the crash at 11:23 a.m. The victim was reportedly driving northbound in a sedan, just north of Jarvis Road when she collided with the median barrier. That almost certainly made her lose control of the car completely, and it veered across the highway and hit the guardrail on the shoulder of the road. The car then caught fire.

The driver sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash despite life-saving efforts. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the crash. Anyone with potentially helpful information is asked to call CHP dispatch at (831) 796-2160.
