Fire Prevention Week

Central Fire Protection District would like to remind everyone that fire prevention week is observed this year between October 6th and 12th. The theme for fire prevention week this year is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives. Test Yours Every Month”. Smoke alarms are a valuable and inexpensive safety tool to protect your family from home fires. They provide an early warning when a fire is in its early stages. The alarm provides early detection, in many cases, before there are visible flames. This will provide your family with enough time to escape before the fire is out of control. Smoke alarms; however, are only effective if they are working properly. Tips for effective smoke alarm use are:

  1.  Change the batteries at least once a year.
  2. Change the batteries the same month every year to help to remember.
  3. Test the alarms once a month by pressing the test button.
  4. Make sure that you have the right number of alarms in your home.
  5. Insure that alarms are installed in appropriate locations.
  6. Make sure that you also have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home.
