Spring is a good time to try new things. And that’s exactly what the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries is doing with its Spring Book Sale. The Saturday, May 1
8 event will be held at a new location with new hours and new pricing.
The sale, which has been held at the Civic Auditorium in downtown Santa Cruz for as long as anyone can remember, is moving a half-block up Church St, to the old Sentinel parking lot next to the Downtown Library. The new hours are noon to 5 p.m., and the new prices are $3 for hardcover books, $2 for paperbacks and $1 for children’s books. Previously, books were sold by the pound.
There will be more than 10,000 books to choose from, all in “gently used” condition. Used books on tape, CDs, DVDs and e-readers will also be for sale.
The band Coffee Zombie Collective will perform and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History will set up a participatory “pop up museum” for making “altered” books. Pleasure Pizza and The Penny Ice Creamery will be selling food.
The Friends is a non-profit organization whose members support the 10-branch Santa Cruz Public Library system through fund-raising, volunteer services and advocacy.
