A funeral service for Fire Captain Peder Christian McElroy will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Skypark in Scotts Valley, 361 Kings Village Road, Scotts Valley. Attendees must wear masks and observe social distancing per the county health officer’s order.

The service will be live-streamed on the Facebook pages of the Branciforte Fire Protection District and the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District.
A resident of Scotts Valley and a 22-year veteran at the Branciforte Fire Protection District, McElroy died May 30. He was 48.
A Santa Cruz native, he attended Santa Cruz High School and Cabrillo College, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged and became an emergency medical technician and firefighter.
He was a talented woodworker and carpenter and loved camping and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Shauna, daughter Madelyn, sons James, Gavin and Lucas; parents Peter and Lynn, sister Sommer and brother-in-law Casey.
