Internet Resources at The Santa Cruz Public Library

Learn about the four online databases that are available for use as a library patron: Ancestry.com Library Edition, FindMyPast, HeritageQuest Online, and AmericanAncestors.org (the New England Historic Genealogical Society).

Discussion includes how to get access to these genealogical databases using the internet and to explore the various search techniques. The presentation will focus on an overview of which databases you can use at the library and which ones you can use at home. There will be a live internet demonstration to enable you to access these resources on your own. Online newspaper subscriptions will be explored.

Karen Theriot Reader has been a member of the GSSCC for the past 25 years. She is a retired librarian and served as the GSSCC President from 2009 – 2010. She is a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, among others, and has an B. A. in English from University of California, Berkeley, where she also earned her M.L.S. Karen specializes in Acadian French research and Cajun Louisiana genealogy, and lives in Santa Cruz County.


Gail Burk has been a member of GSSCC since 1981 and served as GSSC President 1994-1996, and again in 2007-2009. Previously she was employed by the Santa Cruz County Public Library. Gail graduated from University of California Santa Barbara with a major in fine arts and a minor in history. She is a member of a weekly writing group and a monthly sketching group. Over several decades, she has worked on a variety of research and is especially experienced in French Canadian research.
