A Weight Loss Program To Help You Get There!

Millions of Americans, jump grimly aboard the diet bandwagon on January 1 determined to “get skinny” fast – only to tumble off, more frustrated than ever, within a week or two. Worse, all those good intentions go down the drain until the next January.

But this year can be different! Instead of doggedly pursuing a lonely battle to reach an unrealistic body size, honor a new attitude toward health and weight. It’s a time to celebrate a healthy lifestyle that lasts a lifetime and address eating and weight problems in a positive way.

The fact is – a healthy weight is crucial for a long, high-quality life. Obesity experts have confirmed what we see every day: More than 125 million Americans age 20 and older are overweight or obese, putting them at a dangerous risk of heart attack, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, diabetes, depression and other health concerns. Yet, most adults, saddled with unrealistic visions and bad advice, don’t realize the gains that modest weight loss can offer. Losing just 10 percent of one’s body weight, can greatly improve the odds against these life-threatening conditions.

Now comes the dilemma. Of all the countless weight-loss programs being offered, which one is the right one for you that will ultimately provide the long-term results you were hoping for? This became my dilemma as well. Not only was I looking for a program that would work for me personally, but also professionally, I needed to find a program that I could bring into my practice to offer my patients.

After much research, I settled on a ketogenic-based program, which is a diet low in carbohydrates and one that provides an adequate amount of protein and healthy fat. Many diets can help you to lose weight but the question remains, what kind of weight are you losing? For many of the diets available, unfortunately a lot of the loss can be muscle. When you return to normal eating, you regain your weight due to the lost muscle. (Muscle burns stored fat!) Our diet helps to protect your muscle and organs. The weight you lose is excess fat instead.

Another valuable component of a successful weight-loss program is that you don’t do it alone. Research shows that the more support people have during weight loss, the better their results.

The help of friends and professionals who can provide invaluable weight loss information, companionship throughout the process, support during setbacks, and celebration during successes is key!
