Get Your Senior Resource Directory For 2014

SIA_Maejean-Foskett-Resource-Specialist Resource Directory Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comWork is now being completed on the 2014 Senior Resource Directory for Santa Cruz County published by Senior Network Services. I cannot say enough about how valuable this little yellow book has proven to be for local seniors. It is published each year to provide senior citizens and persons with disabilities with information about the many resources that are available to them in Santa Cruz County.

This 8 inch by 5 inch book, which is up-dated each year, has been referred to as a “seniors’ work bible” because it serves as a reference tool for obtaining the information you will need to contact any of the following: Caregivers Services, Community Centers, Councils and Commissions, Counseling Services, Day Care, Dental Care, Education and Recreation, Elected Officials, Emergency Calls, Employment, Equipment Rentals, Finance Advice, Food and Meal Programs, Government Assistance, Health Support Services, Home Care, Hospitals, Housing, Legal and Consumer Services, MediCal, Senior Centers, Transportation, and Volunteer Organizations.

Maejean Foskett, Resource Specialist, informed me that they distribute approximately 5,000 of these books each year and the 2014 edition will come out in March. Multiple copies will be available in various senior organizations throughout the county and you can pick up a copy at Senior Network Services, 1777A Capitola Road, Santa Cruz. A $2 donation is appreciated. She also stated that only non-profit organizations and government agencies are listed and no advertising is allowed.

This directory is only one service offered by the Senior Network Services. They are preparing to celebrate their Forty Year Anniversary this year as a private non-profit organization.

Brenda Moss, Executive Director works with a 12 member staff to provide the following services to senior citizens in Santa Cruz County: Home Help, Respite Registry, Family Care-giver Support Program, Senior Shared Housing Program, Case Management, HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program). These services are free, and there is a small fee for the Money Management program.

In February, the office will be celebrating their Fortieth Anniversary by launching a fund raising campaign. Their goal is to match funds with a $20,000 donation. The donations will be used to maintain the valuable services offered by The Senior Network Services.

There is much to learn about these valuable services for seniors in our area. Next month, I will report on more details.
