Highway 17 / 1 Connector Overnight Closures Begin April 11

Caltrans announces the connector ramp from southbound Highway 17 to southbound Highway 1 in Santa Cruz, opposite the notorious northbound ramp known as β€œThe Fishhook,” will have overnight closures Sunday through Thursday nights over the next four weeks, while crews build a retaining wall to improve lines of sight for motorists and to fashion other ramp safety improvements.

The contractor for this $5.12 million project is A. Teichert and Son Inc. of Roseville.

The first overnight closure will take place this Sunday, April 11, through Friday, April 16. Closure hours will be from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A detour will be in place. Motorists on southbound Highway 17 will be directed to take the Ocean St. offramp and turn left on Plymouth St. to enter southbound Highway 1.

This closure is scheduled to span four consecutive weeks. The other closure dates are April 18-23, April 25-30 and May 2-7, all from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The connector ramp will be open Fridays from 6 a.m. to Sunday at 10 p.m.

Motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 5 minutes. Message and directional signs will be in place.
