Holiday Crafts at Elks Lodge

By Joyce Oroz, Aromas

WATSONVILLE — The annual Holiday Craft Event is coming to the Watsonville Elks Lodge Friday, November 8th 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday, November 9th 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

I love this event! I bring my Christmas list, enjoy a good lunch and feel good because the money I spend goes to local artists and crafts people and supports the wonderful work done by the Elk’s Lodge. Their profits go to children with physical or mental needs and their families. All events at the Elks are for that purpose.

The Holiday Craft Event is held at 121 Martinelli Street, Watsonville. How do the Elks put together such an extravaganza? I asked Marjorie Tholen who sells her hand-knitted items and Laurie Tholen who makes copper jewelry. “Where do they find over 40 venders of handmade, handcrafted items? How do they set it up and run it like clock-work?”

I followed the clues and found the answer to those questions. Her name is Rosalie Johnson and she has been organizing this event every year for the last 19 years.

Her dedication and service has created a very popular yearly event, one that enriches the community and puts handmade presents under my Christmas tree and many others. With a little more investigation I found that Rosalie also volunteers at the Watsonville Hospital.

I hope to see you at the Craft Event. I will be selling my newest book in the Josephine Stuart Mystery series, Cuckoo Clock Caper, published by Cozy Cat Press. Sale price, $10:00, reg. $14.95
