Holiday Gift: Support Capitola Wharf

The Capitola Wharf Enhancement Project (CWEP) has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to rebuild and enhance the historic Capitola Wharf following storm damage in January of this year. An update on the project’s progress will take center stage at the upcoming Capitola City Council meeting on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

Since its launch, the community-backed CWEP has raised over $300,000 in donations from $1 to $25,000 demonstrating a collective commitment from contributors of all scales.

The funds are instrumental in the ongoing reconstruction efforts that will breathe new life into the iconic landmark. Enhancements include new matching benches, picnic tables, trash cans, light poles, art features, a bronze fish scavenger hunt, binocular viewing stations, and possibly more.

The City Council meeting will serve as a platform for the community’s voice to be heard. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate.

CWEP leader Gerry Jensen expressed excitement about the progress and the community’s role in shaping the project.

“Reaching this point is truly a remarkable holiday gift for Capitola,” he said. “The collaboration and passion within our community have been inspiring and we extend a warm invitation to all to join us in shaping the future of the Capitola Wharf.”

As 2023 concludes, residents can consider end-of-year giving. Donations to the project, facilitated through Wharf to Wharf Race, are tax-deductible. The fundraising campaign will conclude on Jan. 15, 2024.
