Homicide Arrest Update

On November 16, 2012 at 10:54 pm, Santa Cruz Police Department officers received a call about a disturbance and possible death at a campsite located south of Depot Park. Upon arrival, officers located a non-responsive 51 year-old male. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased and investigators ruled his death a homicide. Investigators processed the scene for evidence and interviewed numerous people regarding the case.

 

Investigators arrested Jeremiah Long early Saturday morning and based on additional leads gathered from witnesses and from the scene investigators were able to arrest Shaelyn Gonzales and Michael Hudson late Sunday afternoon. In the last day, investigators made two additional arrests in conjunction to the homicide – Tina Anderson and Jason Weiland. At this point investigators are working to determine if there were any additional suspects in the case.

 

Investigators believe that there was an altercation at the campsite before the homicide, however, they are working to determine exactly what it was over and what the motive for the homicide was.

An autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death is being performed today. It is unclear when the results will be available from the Coroner’s Office.  At this point nearest kin to the victim has not been located therefore his name has not been released. It will be released as soon as family is located.
