Ms. Haims will discuss her New York Times bestselling book How to Raise An Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success at the Aptos High Parent Education Series first event of the New Year. This dynamic presentation is co-sponsored with Gateway and Pacific Collegiate schools.

Julie Lythcott-Haims is the former Stanford University Dean of Freshmen and Undergraduate Advising and delivers specifics on how to prepare kids to be their most authentic selves with an emphasis on raising happy, healthy and resilient successful adults.

In her new book, Lythcott-Haims puts forth thought provoking material outlining the detrimental effects of helicopter parenting and delivers an alternative philosophy for raising self-sufficient young adults.

She draws on research, conversations with educators and employers, and her own insights as a mother and student dean to highlight ways in which over-parenting harms children and their stressed-out parents.

While empathizing with parents’ universal worries, she offers practical alternative strategies that underline the importance of allowing children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary for success.

This event is relevant to parents of toddlers as well as twentysomethings so join your fellow parents and educators to help ensure the next generation can take charge of their own lives with competence and confidence.
