Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of an inmate at the main jail Tuesday morning.
On Nov. 1 at about 7:45 a.m., an inmate at the Santa Cruz County Main Jail was found in medical distress, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and jail correctional staff and jail medical staff began treating the inmate immediately and called for Emergency Medical Services. Ambulance and fire personnel responded to assist in medical treatment of the inmate.
Despite these efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m.
An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.
Release of the inmate’s name is pending notification of next of kin.
