Because of the popularity of the beach areas for 4th of July celebrations and the penchant for private fireworks after dark, there is a combined effort by local law enforcement to control access. There is a special concern this year because of the current drought.
Here are the proposed closures for the Aptos/La Selva area for July 4th courtesy of Zach Friend, County Supervisor 2nd District.
Rio Del Mar/Seacliff Areas
- Rio Del Mar Blvd and Clubhouse Dr. Officer will be directing traffic exiting area toward Hwy. 1 from 10 pm to midnight. Road closed to non-local traffic with detour signs directing back to Soquel Drive and Hwy. 1
- Broadway at Santa Cruz Avenue (Seacliff) closed from 2:00 pm to midnight
- El Camino del Mar at Santa Cruz Avenue closed from 2:00 pm to midnight
- Seacliff Drive at Santa Cruz Avenue closed from 2:00 pm to midnight
- Seacliff Drive – no parking zone for the area around Santa Cruz Avenue
- Beach Drive at Esplanade (Rio Del Mar) closed between 10 am and midnight – residents/guests only
- Esplanade parking lot (limited parking – will be open but some spots blocked for emergency vehichles)
- Playa Blvd at San Andreas Rd closed from 2:00 pm to midnight – residents/guests only
- Estrella at San Andreas Rd closed from 2:00 pm to midnight – residents/guests only
- Marea Avenue at San Andreas Rd closed from 2:00 pm to midnight – residents/guests only
La Selva Beach area
- Margarity at Y intersection – closed from 2:00 pm to midnight – residents/guests only
- Margarita Drive at San Andreas Road (closed throughout day)
