June Election Candidate Filing for Judges Now Through February 5

Candidates for Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge are required to file a Declaration of Intention with the County Clerk by 5 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014.

Incumbent judges and challengers must pay the entire filing fee of $1,813 at the time of filing their Declaration of Intention represented by money, signatures or any prorated combination of money and signatures.  The filing fee is non-refundable.

There are seven Superior Court Judges up for election in June:


  • Ariadne Symons
  • Denine Guy
  • Paul Marigonda
  • Heather Morse
  • Paul Burdick
  • John Salazar
  • Stephen Siegel

Only incumbents and challengers to the Office of Superior Court Judge must file a Declaration of Intention by 5 p.m., Wednesday, February 5. Candidates for all other offices are required to file Nomination Documents and Declarations of Candidacy during the filing period from February 10 to March 7.

Other Offices on the June 2014 ballot include:

·         State Offices: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Controller, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Insurance Commissioner, State Board of Equalization District 2;
·         18th and 20th Congressional Districts;
·         29th and 30th Assembly Districts;
·         County Offices: Assessor-Recorder, Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector, County Clerk, District Attorney-Public Administrator, Superintendent of Schools, Sheriff-Coroner;
·         County Supervisors for the 3rd and 4th districts; and
  • Soquel Union Elementary School District governing board member.
