This club of energetic, community-minded women is putting on a staged reading fundraiser for their scholarship program for high school seniors in Santa Cruz County. On Thursday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m.,they will put on “Shakespeare Meets Law and Order” at the La Selva Beach Clubhouse.
The play was written and will be directed by long-time club member Joyce Mann, Law and Order and Shakespeare aficionada, who is active in the Saturday Shakespeare Group that meets in Aptos three times a year. In 2009, she wrote a very brief version of the play as a sketch for a Saturday Shakespeare Group session of Romeo and Juliet. A more elaborate version was performed at a private New Year’s party in 2010. This was so well received she adapted it into the current version which was put on as a successful fundraiser at Christ Lutheran Church in November, 2011 benefitting Second Harvest Food Bank and Cabrillo Scholarship Foundation.
In early 2012 Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz needed to raise funds to go the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. They also they had a wonderful turnout and a great success with it. This is a not-to-be-missed fun local event for a worthy cause – be sure to put it on your calendar!
