Leticia Mendoza Elected to Cabrillo’s Board of Trustees

Leticia Mendoza Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comCabrillo College announced that Leticia Mendoza has been elected to its Board of Trustees representing Area V. Cabrillo’s Trustee Area V includes a portion of the City of Watsonville and the southern portion of Freedom, southeast of South Green Valley Road. Mendoza will fill the seat that was vacated by the February 9 resignation of Margarita Carrillo.

Santa Cruz County Election results were officially confirmed December 6th and voters in Area V elected Mendoza to Cabrillo’s Board of Trustees with 55.67% of the vote.

The Cabrillo College Office of the President will host a ‘Meet and Greet’ for Leticia Mendoza on Thursday, December 15 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., in room C103 of the Cabrillo College Watsonville Center, 318 Union Street, Watsonville. All are welcome to attend.


“We are very pleased to welcome Leticia Mendoza to Cabrillo’s Board of Trustees,” said Gary Reece, Cabrillo College Board Chair. “With our first campus offices located in Watsonville, it has been a big part of Cabrillo’s history, and as a growth area for the College, it continues to be critically important to Cabrillo’s future – we look forward to having Leticia’s representation and voice on the Board.”

Mendoza has been the Executive Director of the YWCA of Watsonville since April of 2009. She is a graduate of Watsonville High School and the University of California Santa Cruz, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. She then went on to Columbia University, where she received Master’s degrees in Public Administration with a Specialization in Economic Policy and Philosophy.

In accordance with California Education Code, elected Cabrillo Trustees serve four-year terms commencing in December, with elections held in even-numbered years. Mendoza will be officially sworn in at the Board of Trustees meeting on January 9.
