Local Named to 2014 ITF Seniors Tennis Tournament

Forty Americans to Participate in Senior Tennis’ Premier International Team Competition

Judy-Newman Tennis Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comWHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA announced the 40 players who will represent the United States at the 34th ITF Seniors World Team Championships, the senior tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions.

Included in the list is Scotts Valley’s Judy Newman, who will compete with the 50 & Over team to help defend the Maria Esther Bueno Cup. She will be joined by Tracy Houk (Captain – Montara, CA), Fran Chandler (Jackson, TN) and Vicki Vasiek Buholz (Dallas, TX).

The 40 American athletes will be among some 1,000 players from 39 countries, including first-time teams from China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Haiti and Venezuela. The event will be held at different clubs across the Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton area from April 21-26 for the team competition and April 27–May 4 for the individual competition.

The U.S. team will be defending the Maureen Connolly Cup for the seventh consecutive time in the women’s 55 & Over division, as well as the Bueno Cup. The event was last held in the U.S. in 2012, when it was contested in San Diego.
