Local Stars Take the Stage at 2026 County Fair

Much like many of the exhibits at this year’s Santa Cruz County Fair, the headline entertainment at this year’s Santa Cruz County Fair will be locally grown.

On Friday Sept. 18, direct from Las Vegas, Santana lead singer Andy Vargas, born and raised in Watsonville, will be performing.

Returning to Santa Cruz County is more than a performance for Andy, it’s a homecoming. Joining Andy and his band on select featured songs will be his father, Javier Vargas.

The hometown lineup also includes “American Idol” alum and Santa Cruz native, James Durbin. Durbin and The Lost Boys will take the stage Saturday night, Sept. 19.

“I am very proud of being a born and raised Santa Cruz local. I’m also very proud to be a third-generation resident of Watsonville, as my “Oma & Opa” Shirley Settle and Dr. Jim Settle, DDS raised my mom and her three sisters in Watsonville. I now, along with my wife Heidi, live and raise our three children in this great community,” said Durbin.

Also this year, monster trucks are back. According to the fair, an all-new racetrack promoter will be bringing a bigger and better Monster X Tour on both Wednesday and Thursday of the fair.

The 10,000-pound, car-crushing giants compete in racing, wheelie contests and amazing freestyle action. Attendees can also meet the drivers and see the trucks up close at the pre-event Autograph Pit Party with an additional ticket.
