Six other Breakers teams advanced to the final rounds of the tournament, which drew approximately 4,800 youth soccer players from throughout Northern California and as far away as Washington State. Games were played on 20 fields at five sites across Santa Cruz County, bringing an estimated 16,000 visitors to the area.

“We are thrilled our teams performed well at their home tournament,” Breakers President Ashley Edgar said. “It’s nice for the kids to get to play in front of their families and friends, have fun and get some wins.”

Girls Tournament

In girls’ play, 172 teams played 306 games Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-3. The Breakers 00G (girls) team won the U14 Gold division 3-1 over De Anza Force. Olivia Ross scored three goals in the final match, including two in overtime to lift her team to victory. Haley Jones, Caroline Miller and Jessica Kain also had strong performances, according to Edgar.

In the U15 Premier division, Breakers 99G finished second. The team was led by the play of Monserrat Hernandez, who logged a goal and two assists during the tournament. Two-time Santa Cruz sentinel Goalkeeper of the Year Ana Calero recorded the shutouts behind outstanding defensive play from Jade Taubman. The offense was lead by Clara Critchfield, Mireya Villareal and Rachel Anderson. But the 97G did not score and lost 1-0 in a physical battle against Almaden Quicksilver in the championship match.

The Breakers 98G and 01G teams each won the consolation game in their respective division. The 98G team beat PSV Union of Palo Alto 2-1 to take third in the U16 Gold division. The 01G team was third in the U13 Gold division, blanking Walnut Creek SC Infinity 1-0.
