LOSD Board Member Michael Pisenti Deceased

MichaelPisenti_mug Michael Pisenti Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comThe Live Oak School District announced that longtime board member Michael Pisenti died Oct. 11. Pisenti served four terms, totaling 11 years of service.

Pisenti, 76, attended Live Oak Elementary School, Branciforte Junior High School, Santa Cruz High School, Monterey Peninsula College and Navy Avionics School in Memphis, Tennessee. He ran an aviation electronics business called Airmartronics at Watsonville Municipal Airport until his death. He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in June, said his widow Elwanda Pisenti. A father of three, he served on the school board from 1977 to 1979, then again from 2006 until his passing.

Pisenti is survived by his wife, Elwanda Pisenti; daughters Crystal Pisenti of Boulder Creek, Marie Logie of South Lake Tahoe; son Michael J. Pisenti II; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Tamra Taylor, superintendent of Live Oak School District, advised that the board has 60 days to appoint a trustee to Pisenti’s seat. Candidates can apply on the school district’s website and more information is available by calling Michelle Cefaloni at 831-475-6333 ext. 202.

Live Oak School District Governing Board

Interested persons are notified that there is a vacancy on the Live Oak School District Governing Board. The position to be filled is an appointment ending December 2016. The seat will go to election in November 2016 for the remaining two years of the four-year term that ends December 2018.


The vacancy represents the constituency in the Live Oak School District located within Santa Cruz County and the City of Capitola. For specific information as to District boundaries, contact the Election Department, Santa Cruz County Government Center, 701 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz, California 95060. 425-2173.

The qualifications for holding office are as follows: A candidate for the office of Governing Board is required by law to be eighteen years of age, a registered voter, a resident of the District from the date of filing for office to the end of the term, and cannot be a convicted felon.

The selection procedure is as follows: Each candidate shall be permitted to submit an application and candidate statement. The statements must be delivered to the Superintendent in the Live Oak District Office no later than Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Interviewing of prospective candidates and a possible appointment to fill the vacancy shall be made in open session on Monday, December 14, 2015. If at all, a provisional appointment shall be made no later than January 11, 2016. Selection shall be by an affirmative roll call vote of a majority of the remaining members of the Board.
