Meet the Author Barbara Bloom

Barbara Bloom  Porter Memorial Library
March 13

On March 13, the Porter Memorial Library, at 3050 Porter Street, will feature local author, Barbara Bloom. She will be speaking about her first published book, “On the Water Meridian,” a full-length collection of poetry, composed almost entirely of autobiographical poems, as well as her prose memoir about her life in British Columbia, “Steering Home.”

Barbara Bloom, now semi-retired from teaching English and creative writing at Cabrillo College, grew up on a remote coastal homestead in British Columbia before she eventually came to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC in the early 1970’s and never left. She received her Bachelor’s degree in literature from UC Santa Cruz and her Master’s Degree in English and creative writing from San Francisco State. She’s currently teaching a memoir workshop at The Porter Memorial Library.

She lives in the countryside outside Corralitos with her musician husband. She has a grown daughter and two grandchildren.

The public is invited to the free “Meet the Author Fireside Chats” at The Porter Memorial Library. These are informal coffee hours set around the fireplace. They feature local authors who discuss their works and answer questions from the audience. The authors also sell and autograph their books. Refreshments and coffee will be served, with The Ugly Mug providing the coffee. Limited parking is available behind the library. Enter from Soquel Drive into The Bagelry parking lot and drive through to the left.

For more information, call the library at 475-3326 during library hours: Monday-Friday – 12 – 4 p.m. and Saturday – 10 a.m.-2 p.m., or check out the library website at: porterml.org.
