Meltzer Wins CCS Title in Playoff

Meltzer Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comMax Meltzer, Aptos High School senior, is first medalist from Santa Cruz County in ten years

The Aptos High School senior finished with a 67 at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Monterey then played a par on the par-4 first hole to win a playoff with Austin Murphy from Bellarmine to become the third golfer from Santa Cruz County to ever accomplish the feat.

According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s reporter Andrew Matheson, Meltzer put his drive onto the fairway of the 18th hole. Aptos coach Jamie Townsend said that was a smart move and gave him a better approach to the pin placement on the right side of the green on the playoff 1st hole for his par and avoided a row of bunkers on the right side.

Meltzer, a senior, is committed to San Jose State. He is the first individual CCS Championship medalist from the county since Aptos’ Nick Ragsac in 2007. Harbor’s Kevin Stillman won CCS medalist honors in 1986.
