Brad Tompkins: Soquel’s New Football Coach

Former Soquel High Quarterback and the son of the legendary Knight’s Football Coach Dewey Tompkins, Brad has been chosen as Soquel’s new varsity football coach. His father, Dewey, served as the Knights’ first coach and then held the position for 32 years. In his honor the Knight’s football field is named “Dewey Tompkins Memorial Field.

Dewey passed away in 2010 at the age of 81. In his 32 years as coach his teams won 13 league titles before he retired in 1993 with a 0.606 win percentage and a career record of 203 wins, 125 losses and 7 ties. During those years the Knights qualified for the Central Coast Section playoffs six times. In 1976 Coach Tompkins’ Knights went 9-0 which remains the only unbeaten football team in the school’s history and Brad Tompkins, the new coach, was quarterback for the Knights that season.

Brad becomes just the fifth head coach since the school opened in 1962. He is a 1977 graduate of Soquel and has 18 years of coaching experience as an assistant at Soquel, Westmont and Scotts Valley.
