More Rent Assistance Funding Available

Santa Cruz County has allocated some of its Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds to aid to renters in unincorporated areas who have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and whose housing is at risk because they are behind in rent and/or utility payments.

The deadline to apply for the second round of funding is Oct. 14.

To be eligible, a single-person household’s annual income must be at or below $74,350, which is 80 percent of the area median income. Unpaid or partially paid rent and utility payments going back to April 1, are eligible, up to a maximum of $10,000 per household. Income losses must be due to COVID-19-related factors.

To apply, see cabinc.org/2020/08/31/cares-act/.

The CARES Rental Assistance Program is being implemented by the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County Inc. and Families in Transition. Applications are available in English or Spanish and can be submitted electronically or physically.
