The restaurant industry has been hit especially hard by COVID. Across the U.S., more than one-in-six restaurants have closed permanently, and tens of thousands more have had to significantly scale down their operations.

These closures have left more than 2.3 million food service industry professionals without a job, more than any other sector.

In Santa Cruz County, food service jobs are down 40 percent compared to a year ago.
