Individuals can question stereotypes with increased awareness, communicate with empowered voices, and refine critical and analytical thinking skills to expand a sense of possibility.
Participants will read and discuss eight short stories over the course of eight weeks, from authors such as Louise Erdrich, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mary Gaitskil, Isabel Allende, Haruki Murakami, among others.
For four years, Santa Cruz Public Libraries has been offering People & Stories to people who are in custody at Santa Cruz County Jail facilities. This is the first time the program is offered to the community at large.
Those who can participate in all eight discussions will receive a free book. Registration is required and space is limited. The first event was 1:30 – 3 p.m. Wednesday June 10 via Zoom. Register at santacruzpl.libcal.com/event/6760931. The series will continue at 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday through July 29.
