PG&E is alerting the public that it will be using helicopters in the coming weeks to conduct routine safety inspections along its gas transmission pipelines in parts of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties.
The helicopters are equipped with advanced LiDAR technology, which can detect natural gas leaks and collect data to help the utility monitor its infrastructure and ensure system safety and reliability.
PG&E emphasized that the flights are strictly for surveying company-owned infrastructure and assets.
