Pick Up This Acorn

SPCA_AcornPOW Acorn Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comYou’ve never met a more laid-back, happy-go-lucky, carefree hound dog than Acorn, a nine-year-old Basset Hound mix, surrendered by his owners to a crowded Monterey shelter. He was kept in a yard with inadequate fencing and being the scent hound that he is, plus the boredom of backyard life, Acorn found his way out one too many times.

The Santa Cruz SPCA staff and volunteers fell in love with Acorn the minute he walked through our doors with the biggest smile and wagging tail. He’s been a pleasure to have around and has never once tried to escape when in our office, play-yards, crate, or out on walks. He seems perfectly happy and content when around people or other dog friends.

This spry guy can play with exuberant puppies, chase a tennis ball, go for a good walk, or find a bed to cozy up in. Acorn is game for anything and because he’s very well behaved, he’s so easy and fun to have around! He’s house-trained, rides perfectly in the car, social with other pets and loves people including children. He enjoys exploring new places like the beach and forest and would love to find a home where he can see new and interesting places regularly.

Acorn is a great size, around 25 lbs, and is very Basset-esque with the long body, out-turned feet and floppy ears. He doesn’t seem to do much in the way of barking or baying but does like to have his nose to the ground! Because the type of home Acorn was in before didn’t quite fit his needs, we are looking for one where he’ll flourish. Ideally, this home will be primarily indoors with access to a secure yard. Acorn would love another doggy friend but does not require it as much as he will require his people to have time and affection to give him. He’s not a needy boy and can handle being alone. He’s just looking for a healthy balance of safety, security, fun, activity, attention, commitment and love. Acorn is ready to be picked!
