Principal Casey O’Brien Moving On

By Casey O’Brien

Casey O'Brien Principal Casey Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comDear Mariner students and families, it is with great excitement and some sadness that I inform you that I have taken a new position with Carmel Unified School District (CUSD). I have had a fantastic eight years at AHS that I will never forget. I am proud of the work and accomplishments we have made in the last eight years but it is the relationships that I have made that will I cherish most over time. Relationships with staff, parents and the community organizations but most of all the amazing students!

I have had so much fun, laughs, surprises, (some great and some not so great!) and even cried with so many fantastic students over the years – this I will miss dearly. Yes, I will certainly miss Aptos High very much — but I won’t be fully gone. I will still be the proud parent of two Mariners and a member of the Aptos community.

My new position title is the Chief Student Services Officer for Carmel Unified. It is a superintendent’s cabinet level position that oversees district student services, special education and early childhood education programs. After 17 years in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) it will be nice to learn and experience a new district and Carmel has fantastic reputation.

I will begin working for CUSD in the coming weeks and I will do all that I can to ensure a smooth transition for your next principal. We are all lucky that we have an excellent staff and faculty and three amazing assistant principals that have AHS in great hands during this transition.

I thank you for the opportunity to be the principal at our great school. I look forward to seeing you at sporting and arts events and around the community.

For you students this may sound familiar – probably for the last time “Make it a great future or not… the choice is yours!”

Go Mariners!!!
